About AI background removal

PhotoCraft cutout isolates the subject so you can place it on a clean listing, a profile, or a layout — without drawing masks by hand.

Cutout first, then decide how you use the file

Background removal is the first mile: isolate the subject, inspect the edge, then either download a transparent PNG or continue in Finish for crop and light. Do not composite onto a new scene before the edge looks right — hairline mistakes get harder to fix later.

Upload JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF up to 10MB. A typical product photo under 4MB often returns in under a minute. After the cutout, drag the compare control and check hair, glasses, straps, fur, and product feet at full zoom. A dark halo usually means the original contrast was weak.

Edges that matter: hair, fabric, and glass

Fine hair and soft fabric are where weak cutouts look fake. Check the crown and shoulders against a contrasting test color before you ship. Semi-transparent objects — glasses, veils, steam — may become a harder silhouette; plan the layout around that limit.

Jewelry catalogs that need pixel-perfect contour work still belong in a desktop editor. For shops, social, and team headshots, spend brush time only on the one edge the slider still flags.

Rights and limits

You still need rights to edit the original photo. A clean cutout does not grant a license to someone else’s portrait. Hard limits again: 10MB max, common web formats. Success is a 100% zoom with no halo and a subject you were allowed to edit.

From product page to workbench

This Cutout page explains the workflow and answers common questions for search and sharing. When you upload, PhotoCraft hands the file to the interactive workbench at /app/cutout so you can run AI, compare results, and download without mixing marketing copy into the editing desk.

Credits come from daily check-in (same day) or packs on Pricing (calendar month). Local Finish after cutout does not spend another AI credit — use it when you need exact pixel size, rotation, or light balance before you publish to a shop or profile.

If edges fail, try a higher-contrast original, crop distracting borders first in Finish, then re-run cutout. Pets, flyaway hair, and mesh fabrics benefit most from a 100% zoom pass on a dark and a light test background before you ship the PNG.
